VOYAGER III

Sending a message inside a bottle to the sea is a primordial gesture that respond to
the necessity of exploring the world, to the will of leaving behind a footprint in time, to
the desire of gambling with faith.
The sea propose a vast imaginary region where memory develop itself between myth
and reality, where limits are blurred and the concept of infinity persist.
Attempting to establish pathways across this boundless space would appear as an
undertaking predestined for failure. Nevertheless, this gesture unceasingly inquire
the possibility that this time capsule sail until is eventually found, making
attainable an approach towards otherness.
Voyager 3 is a long term project. Piecemeal, from diverse geographic locations,
estimating the trajectory of ocean currents, winds and storms, I have send messages
into the sea. Mainly sailing in small fishing vessels the bottle have been launched ten
nautical miles offshore.
The message inside each bottle correspond to a numbered image extracted from the
archive “Imágenes para representar el mundo” (“Images for representing the world”)
stamped with the inscription “postcard”.

A red printed label instructs the posible recipient:

IF YOU FIND THIS, SEND ME A PHOTO OF THE BOTTLE

¡PLEASE DO NOT DISCARD IT!
IS PART OF AN ART PROYECT

THANK YOU, I WILL CONTACT YOU SOON

PATRICIA

Several bottles have been found through the length of the project. This findings often
happen three months after each launching. From each one of these findings I have
received e-mails containing news, maps, photographs and narrations of the event.
Some bottles have traveled more than one thousand kilometers before reaching its
recipient.
Every travel is a venturesome event, an invisible journey drawing pathways and
canceling borders.
